Is it AI or is it Real?

Original Photo of My Son
Original Photo of Me

This was my first experiment with AI and I had some fun, but some difficulties along the way with a couple of the modifications I tried.  In this modification, I used the rectangular marquee tool to choose the top part of the background.  I then typed into the generative fill box, "a beautiful waterfall from a mountain background with the sun radiating down from the blue sky."  I used the generative fill mode and rectangular marquee tool to fix a small part of the rock behind the waterfall to blend better.  I ended up generating images several times to get the most realistic blended image.  I then used the rectangular marquee tool again and highlighted the bottom of the background.  I typed in the generative fill box, "add staircase up a mountain with person standing at the top that blends with the rest of the picture."  It was probably a little wordy, but it got the job done.  I also brightened up the background with the auto setting.  I thought all-in-all it came out nicely done and blended.  I was happy with the stairs and the added leaves at the bottom to make it more realistic looking.

In this modification, I chose to change the background to a dark Amazon forest with a waterfall that blended with the original picture.  I again used the rectangular marquee tool to highlight the top of the picture and typed into the generative fill box, "change background to a dark, rainforest background with rainforest creatures that blends."  I personally didn't see any rainforest creatures, but this background looked the best with the existing photo.  I then used the marquee tool again to change the bottom of the photo and typed in the generative fill box, "blend the bottom of the Amazon waterfall with the person standing in the water."  I then added a snake with the generative fill and lasso option.  I changed parts of this photo many times to get it to blend nicely, such as the tree on the right in the background was a little fragmented so I had to smooth it out and blend it better.  The AI is cool to experiment with different variations, but it does do some weird things sometimes.  Don't get me started on what it did with my hands when I chose myself and then did the inverse selection to choose around me.   I spent way too much time on that and watching many videos to try to perfect it.  I chose to take myself completely out as you will see in the next picture.

I had fun with this modification.  I first selected myself with the object selection tool and then I cut myself out.  I then did a fill to blend in the background seamlessly.  I expanded the photo and used the generative fill to fill in and extend the photo.  I brought in the picture of my son doing a handstand and selected him using the object selection tool and copy and pasted him into the photo.  I had to resize him because he was not proportioned correctly.  I decided that I wanted a different background to blend with the rocks.  So I chose the rectangular marquee tool and highlighted from the waterfall up.  I then typed in the generative fill box, "blend the background with same type and color of rock overlooking a rocky valley that looks realistic."  I had to reword the description several times, because some of the images were not very realistic looking.  I was happy with how the rocks blended and that it looks neat (and scary at the same time as I would never let my son that close to the edge of a mountain cliff).

This was a fun and tedious experiment.  I see where it could be a useful tool to utilize and enhance your work.  I still like to be creative in my own rights and possibly allow AI to aid in that process.
