AS Designs - Final Portfolio Website

Welcome to my final portfolio website!   I made quite a few changes to my website to incorporate the feedback that I received.  I decided to take my portfolio pictures off the main page as they are also on my portfolio page and add a picture that complemented my theme.  The image is of a woman with a crystal ball, and I added my tagline, "Imagine. Create. Design." over the crystal ball.  I also added one of my favorite pictures from my portfolio to the intro message.   On the "About Me" page I added a background that I created in Photoshop using the Generative Fill, layers, opacity, and auto adjust options.  I kept in mind the concepts that we learned in Photoshop, such as the style and layout that I chose to arrange the text and images added structure and separation of the information while leaving an appropriate amount of white space.  I also changed the color of the text to a dark gray and added a scroll option whereby the background stays in p...

AS Designs Portfolio Website

Welcome to my portfolio website   and final class project!   Oh what fun I had navigating and designing my own website, AS Designs.  This was my first time using Wix, and I enjoyed learning and utilizing the many features that are available to assist you in developing a streamlined and interactive portfolio website.  I attempted to use a couple different templates and settled on a more plain but effective template to showcase my work.  The template that I used had blog posts that utilized AI to ask strategic questions to write a post for you.  The posts were neat, but I decided to put the link to my blog on my portfolio website. I developed a clean, simple logo with a tagline (Imagine.  Create.  Design) and added it to the header along with the tabs to take the user to the available pages:  Home / About / Portfolio / Blog / Contact.  The search bar and social media links (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) were also added to the...

AI Creations

Image
Is it AI or is it Real? Original Photo of My Son Original Photo of Me This was my first experiment with AI and I had some fun, but some difficulties along the way with a couple of the modifications I tried.  In this modification, I used the rectangular marquee tool to choose the top part of the background.  I then typed into the generative fill box, "a beautiful waterfall from a mountain background with the sun radiating down from the blue sky."  I used the generative fill mode and rectangular marquee tool to fix a small part of the rock behind the waterfall to blend better.  I ended up generating images several times to get the most realistic blended image.  I then used the rectangular marquee tool again and highlighted the bottom of the background.  I typed in the generative fill box, "add staircase up a mountain with person standing at the top that blends with the rest of the picture."  It was probably a little wordy, but it got the job done....

13 Reasons Why Book Cover Redesign

Image
Introducing my book cover redesign for  13 Reasons Why  by Jay Asher:  Or this alternative: Original Book Design: Picture of book obtained from Amazon and taken by:  Annette Sherwood-Fischer  I chose my first book cover redesign sketch for the book, 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, because I connected with it personally and, also, received positive feedback on using the image of the tape on the cover to represent the essence of the story.  After setting my margins for the book cover to the required measurements and adding guides to mark the 6 in. front and back covers and 1 in. spine, my first project was to find an image of a cassette tape that I felt would work well with my design concept.  The tape that I chose was an Adobe stock image, which had a creamy background with colors of red to orange across it.  At first it seemed distracting so I used the luminosity blending option to strip the colors to blend with the background (see the alternative ...

Book Cover Redesign Sketches

Image
Hmmm . . . what book should I choose to reimage its cover while staying true to its brand/identity?  That was a very difficult question to answer.  After much thought and consideration, I chose two different books for a little variety to formulate the six sketches. The first book that I chose was "It" by Stephen King , also known as the "King of Horror" .  I read the book many years before the movie came out.  The description on the back cover will be something like this:   The story tracks the harrowing ordeals of seven children from Derry haunted by an evil entity adept at morphing into manifestations fueled by their deepest fears.  This sinister being, most often assuming the guise of Pennywise the Dancing Clown, feeds upon the vulnerability and fears of its favored prey of young children.   This book is definitely not for the faint of heart.  Although, i n 1986, Publisher's Weekly listed "It" as the best selling fiction book i...

Wine & Chocolate Festival Poster

Image
After receiving constructive feedback on my 4th sketch with the image of a group of people toasting and having fun, I decided that I would choose that particular sketch as my template with a few modifications.  It portrayed the message the best that I wanted to convey to my audience of wine lovers.  I had fun with this design and used many more features in Photoshop while creating it.   I used a wine color for the word "wine" as well as the majority of the type and a brown color for the word "chocolate."   The tagline, "Good friends and wine are cheaper than therapy." is displayed in white to stand out from the other text and draw attention to it suggesting pure fun in a social setting with friends and to relate to the image I chose.  I originally colored in the background with the paint brush tool in a lighter pink to offset the wine color.  However, I found the background image of wine being poured into a wine glass and chose to use it as an overlay...

Wine and Chocolate Festival Event Poster

Image
When trying to decide on an event that I could attempt to do multiple sketches and have fun with, I was drinking wine with my daughter.   She suggested to look for a wine event (go figure).  We love wine tasting (especially in the Fingerlakes).  I found one of my favorite wine events--the Wine and Chocolate Festival coming in November at the NYS Fairgrounds.  The following are my rough sketches, incorporating the 7 elements (goal, audience, whitespace, text, imagery, format and color) into each of them:   Sketch #1 - I started out with the Wine & Chocolate Festival logo and placed it in a pink box with the words "wine" and "festival" in red and "chocolate" in brown.  I added images of a wine bottle, two glasses toasting, chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries to give the poster a little more pizzazz and break up all the text. Sketch #2 - I chose to add larger images to stand out on the poster--a large bottle of wine and red glass of wine wit...
