Wine and Chocolate Festival Event Poster

Image
When trying to decide on an event that I could attempt to do multiple sketches and have fun with, I was drinking wine with my daughter.   She suggested to look for a wine event (go figure).  We love wine tasting (especially in the Fingerlakes).  I found one of my favorite wine events--the Wine and Chocolate Festival coming in November at the NYS Fairgrounds.  The following are my rough sketches, incorporating the 7 elements (goal, audience, whitespace, text, imagery, format and color) into each of them:   Sketch #1 - I started out with the Wine & Chocolate Festival logo and placed it in a pink box with the words "wine" and "festival" in red and "chocolate" in brown.  I added images of a wine bottle, two glasses toasting, chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries to give the poster a little more pizzazz and break up all the text. Sketch #2 - I chose to add larger images to stand out on the poster--a large bottle of wine and red glass of wine wit...

Saint Annette and the Dragon

Image
Welcome to my personal photomontage - Saint Annette and the Dragon - 2024 At first I started to merely add my self-interpreted photomontage (below-right), but then decided it was not as impactful as a side-by-side comparison to the original Saint George and the Dragon painting from 1966 (below-left) as the subtle nuances would be missed or lost in translation. This was quite the project for me as it was my first attempt at creating a photomontage while learning and using the many different tools and techniques in Photoshop.  Some of the tools that I used were the quick selection tool, object selection tool, the lasso and layer masks that enabled me to choose the images that I wanted from separate files, such as my face, my granddaughter's face, as well as other personal images and to drag them into place on my chosen background, creating layers.  I was a little perplexed on how to incorporate our heads on Saint George and on the princess seamlessly covering them comple...

The Archangel Gabriel, Saint George and the Dragon, and the Lighthouse at Honfleur

Image
Through the many images of the National Gallery of Art, I chose three works of art that peaked my interest:  The Archangel Gabriel, Saint George and the Dragon, and The Lighthouse at Honfleur. The Archangel Gabriel - Masolino de Panical (1939) Saint George and the Dragon - Rogier v an der Weyden (1966) The Lighthouse at Honfleur - Georges Sewrat (1983) Instead of drawing images, I decided to print out the artwork that I chose and cut out images to have a better visual of where and how I wanted them placed.  The first sketch that I made below shows me as the angel holding my granddaughter, Bailey.  I did not cut the images exactly how I wanted them placed (with my head as the angel head and Bailey in the angels arms).  Instead, I kept the image of my head, upper body, and arms together to depict the message of me as the angel/guardian holding my angelic granddaughter looking at her with so much love and compassion. However, in the final draft, I would separate my head...
