13 Reasons Why Book Cover Redesign

Image
Introducing my book cover redesign for  13 Reasons Why  by Jay Asher:  Or this alternative: Original Book Design: Picture of book obtained from Amazon and taken by:  Annette Sherwood-Fischer  I chose my first book cover redesign sketch for the book, 13 Reasons Why, by Jay Asher, because I connected with it personally and, also, received positive feedback on using the image of the tape on the cover to represent the essence of the story.  After setting my margins for the book cover to the required measurements and adding guides to mark the 6 in. front and back covers and 1 in. spine, my first project was to find an image of a cassette tape that I felt would work well with my design concept.  The tape that I chose was an Adobe stock image, which had a creamy background with colors of red to orange across it.  At first it seemed distracting so I used the luminosity blending option to strip the colors to blend with the background (see the alternative ...

Book Cover Redesign Sketches

Hmmm . . . what book should I choose to reimage its cover while staying true to its brand/identity?  That was a very difficult question to answer.  After much thought and consideration, I chose two different books for a little variety to formulate the six sketches. Wine & Chocolate Festival Poster

After receiving constructive feedback on my 4th sketch with the image of a group of people toasting and having fun, I decided that I would choose that particular sketch as my template with a few modifications.  It portrayed the message the best that I wanted to convey to my audience of wine lovers.  I had fun with this design and used many more features in Photoshop while creating it.   I used a wine color for the word "wine" as well as the majority of the type and a brown color for the word "chocolate."   The tagline, "Good friends and wine are cheaper than therapy." is displayed in white to stand out from the other text and draw attention to it suggesting pure fun in a social setting with friends and to relate to the image I chose.  I originally colored in the background with the paint brush tool in a lighter pink to offset the wine color.  However, I found the background image of wine being poured into a wine glass and chose to use it as an overlay...
