Wine and Chocolate Festival Event Poster
When trying to decide on an event that I could attempt to do multiple sketches and have fun with, I was drinking wine with my daughter. She suggested to look for a wine event (go figure). We love wine tasting (especially in the Fingerlakes). I found one of my favorite wine events--the Wine and Chocolate Festival coming in November at the NYS Fairgrounds. The following are my rough sketches, incorporating the 7 elements (goal, audience, whitespace, text, imagery, format and color) into each of them:
Sketch #1 - I started out with the Wine & Chocolate Festival logo and placed it in a pink box with the words "wine" and "festival" in red and "chocolate" in brown. I added images of a wine bottle, two glasses toasting, chocolate and chocolate covered strawberries to give the poster a little more pizzazz and break up all the text.
Sketch #2 - I chose to add larger images to stand out on the poster--a large bottle of wine and red glass of wine with a large heart-shaped box of chocolates. The font is a little different (more like Helvetica) with the word, "Affair" in red and cursive. The background is a dark brown beneath the text and gradually gets lighter towards the wine bottle. The punchline to go along with the "Affair" twist is, "Love at first taste."
Sketch #3 - This is one of my favorites with the pouring of the red wine into the wine glass. I used the same fonts as previously, but chose black text. The heart charcuterie board is displaying strawberries, raspberries. and chocolate. "Come fall in love," is my punchline to grab attention.
Sketch #4: In this sketch, I added four people sitting at a table with wine and chocolate toasting, laughing, and having a good time. I added some images to the text, i.e. the "i" in wine is a bottle of red wine and the first "o" in chocolate is a red strawberry. The background is white so the people can be seen and added some color (red) to the text to separate words and break it up a little.
Sketch#5: I liked the toasting idea and added three wine glasses so that you can see the red wine looking down in the glasses being held by outstretched arms toasting. I added the punchline (in red), "Friends and Wine are Devine", to appeal to people who love the social atmosphere. I used red and brown in the title with the rest in a black text with a white background.
Sketch #6: My final sketch is another favorite. This one has a rich, dark red background with a large bottle of wine that has grapes, chocolate dipped strawberries, and chocolate sitting at the bottom of the bottle. "Wine" is a fancy cursive font with "Chocolate and Event" in more of a block text across the bottle (dark and faded in the background. I rearranged the text a little in a different format to go with the richer design. I also included the website on the bottom of each sketch for more details and to order tickets. I didn't want to add too much and take away from the whitespace of each sketch.
